The Hangover Movie

Posted in A Case of the Mondays with tags , , , , , , , , , on June 8, 2009 by officezombie

Last night I was invited to go out to see “The Hangover Movie”. I really wanted to see this movie but figured it was your typical Vegas comedy where all the funny parts were in the trailer. I did like thew guys in the movie that I was familiar with so I figured there was promise. As soon as the movie started I was laughing. This did not stop until after the credits were over and even in the car on the way home I was laughing. Hell, I am still laughing as I type this out right now. The guys behind this move as well as the actors themselves were geniuses. I honestly am sore from laughing hysterically. I know once it comes out on DVD I am buying this one. If you have not seen this movie yet, get off your ass and go to the theater. NOW! You will not be let down.

I was just reading CNN and saw that David Carradine killed himself in his room in Bangkok. Story Below:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/06/04/obit.david.carradine/index.html

American actor David Carradine has been found dead in a Bangkok, Thailand, hotel, according to his personal manager, Chuck Binder.
David Carradine became famous in the 1970s after starring in the television series “Kung Fu.”

Binder said Thursday that the death is being investigated but could provide no other details.

Carradine’s death was “shocking and sad. He was full of life, always wanting to work … a great person,” Binder said, according to People magazine.

Carradine, who became famous in the 1970s when he starred as Kwai Chang Caine in the television series “Kung Fu,” was 72.

Modern audiences may best know him as “Bill” in Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” films. iReport: Share memories of David Carradine

His career included more than 100 feature films, two dozen television movies and theater work, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Carradine, who was married five times and divorced four, is survived by his widow, Annie Bierman, according to People magazine.
Don’t Miss

He was the son of actor John Carradine.

“David’s career as an artist did not begin on the stage, though some of his early career was on and off Broadway. His earliest work was as a sculptor and painter,” Carradine’s official Web site says.

Techie Tuesday!

geeks

I love Techie Tuesday. It’s kinda sad I know. Being a nerd is always more fun when you can flex your nerd muscles and show off what our kind have invented for the masses. Below are today’s newest inventions from http://www.ideaconnection.com/new-inventions/:

Transforming Cargo Vehicle

To tackle inner city deliveries this innovative battery powered vehicle can be configured into variable track, wheelbase and load carrying variations. It features a Compact Mode, Narrow Mode (with banking corner action) and Pick-up Truck Mode.

The Compact Mode sees the Pick-up section flushed to the back of the cabin. It’s an ideal situation for small deliveries. The Narrow mode gives reduced width and higher maneuverability and as the name suggests, the Pick-up Truck Mode allows you to carry larger payloads.

Electric-Powered Superbike

TTX Grand Prix founder Azhar Hussein has built a demonstrator electric superbike based around a Suzuki GSX 750 and dubbed it the TTX01. It’s the first prototype of what he hopes will become a production motorcycle within a year or three.

The first green-powered Grand Prix bike has been built by the people behind the TTXGP, the world’s first clean emission motorcycle race due to be held on June 12 on the Isle of Man as part of the annual TT races.

Plastic and Fuel that Grows on Trees

Chemists have learned how to convert plant biomass directly into a chemical building block that can not only be used to produce fuel, but also plastics, polyester and industrial chemicals cheaply and efficiently.

Using a chemical and solvent known as an ionic liquid, the team was able to convert the simple sugars into a primary building block for fuel and polyesters known as hydroxymethylfurfural.

The new process means that it may soon be viable to harness the energy from carbon dioxide and solar energy that crop plants pick up, instead of relying on the ancient solar energy locked up in fossil fuels.

There are MANY other inventions on the site but I picked some that caught my eye. Progess and technology can be exciting I think. That might explain why I loved the James Bond movies so much. Q was my idol. You know that dude rocked the gadgets outside of the SIS!

“Sexy”

Posted in Friday Rant with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 29, 2009 by officezombie

There has been something on my mind for quite some time and I finally just needed to get it off my chest. It appears we as people have lost the ability to communicate face to face or even on the phone. I am all for technology and using it as a convenience as well as entertainment but come on…I noticed this with my son but have also noticed in adult too. These are the same people who no issues voicing opinions or the like when inside a forum with a crazy avatar and hidden account information. Standing in front of you they have no social skills whatsoever. This is like a new epidemic I think. How the hell are we going to move forward in any regard if people can’t even talk to one another. I will agree with most, that sometimes talking can be over rated and annoying but most times, it’s necessary.

I can only imagine how a people will be on dates.

Man – “Uh, I think you’re sexy”

Woman – “Thanks”

Man – “Should we order”

Woman – “ok”

Man (thinking to himself) – I think I’m so gonna score. She talked to me

I can see it also when I hear stories of dudes chatting with women, either in person, via Instant Messenger or even texting. We’ve lost all ability to have “game”. Guys use the same damn word over and over and over. Get a thesaurus already. The women seem to be only into taking pictures of themselves and talking a lot of game and then in person…caving… This hasn’t happened to me per se but I have had instances where I know of someone (a LOT of someones) this has happened to.

Let’s face it, if we can’t talk to one another in the future, we’re all gonna be some very horny, annoyed, lonely ass people with a penchant for nuclear war. At that point people might welcome a nuclear fallout. At least we’ll all be closer together!

The Economy and You

Posted in Witless Wednesdays with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on May 27, 2009 by officezombie

So, I have been talking with friends and also doing some reading (Yeah, you heard me) about the state of the economy. This to me is like picking the winning lottery number. No one has the right answer, just a formula for winning. When you ready about the economy and where we stand all you hear is speculation. This is because there are too many pieces in the puzzle. So, why do you ask are there all these good news stories being published? My belief is this is due to certain figures pulling the puppet strings and wanting consumer confidence to go up.

Even the chairman of the Federal Reserve doesn’t have a clue about what is going to happen. most economist can only say that HOPEFULLY, we will be out of the recession by the end of the year. We can see a lot of data to prove that theory. Scott Adams just this morning blogged about an optimistic view on the state of the economy. You can find it here: http://www.dilbert.com/blog/entry/calling_the_bottom/

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see who was right and who was wrong. I hope I am wrong on this one!

Techie Tuesday

Is it me or do weekends not seem long enough. It seems that right when you start to relax and enjoy the weekend, it’s already Sunday and you have to get ready for the next week to roll on through. Thank god it’s only a 4 day work week. Am I right?

So, this weekend I came across this really cool looking case mod. In case, you’re not sure what that is. Some people build their own computer cases to be whatever they want.

Office Idiots

Posted in Flashback Friday with tags , , , , , , , , , , on May 22, 2009 by officezombie

As some of you know I work in IT. I deal daily in all things computers. Along with that I also deal in all things moron. While most of our users are relatively computer literate, we still have some who have not embraced the future and cannot find the damn power button. These are the people who, if you saw them on the street would not hesitate calling other people idiots. I know this from experience. Long story short…office party, said moron was calling people idiots for doing things all night. I digress…

Small tip…when you load all your mp3′s you received from Limewire and then move those onto your work computer for those days you wanna rock out while mastering your next powerpoint presentation, ya might wanna check to see that they are not infected files. This makes for a happy IT department and thus a happy company. The over laugher in my previous post happened to infect our network with her latest copy of some obscure artist she wanted to listen to at work. Let’s just say, it was no laughing matter. Sure enough, she came over and could not the work laugh from coming out like vocal diarrhea.  *sigh* Thank god the weekend is here!!!

The Work Laugh – Not a Laughing Matter

Posted in Is it Friday Yet? on May 21, 2009 by officezombie

So today I was on the phone with a vendor and while I was speaking to this salesperson, I couldn’t help but get frustrated with the overemphasis of bullshit coming through the line. Even worse, she gave me the work laugh. Fine…dazzle me with your great prices…thrill me with your excellent track record but don’t give me the work laugh. At least attempt to make it a genuine response. Fakeness was never a big part of my plan in corporate America. However, it seems you cannot get anywhere unless it you use it. I was never a kiss ass or a work-laugher. I sat by and watched others come and go…kissing ass and taking pay. It was like nails on the chalkboard when I heard the work laugh through the cube farms.

Now, let me make one thing clear. I am normally a very upbeat, happy person most of the time. I like to smile and laugh a lot. What I can’t stand is fakeness of any sort. Some of you would say “What about if someone is in a bad mood? They can’t just be rude.” You’re right. They can’t and shouldn’t but why is it wrong to say at work you’re having an off day? People would understand. Anyways, I guess I’m rambling now.

I’ve also experienced the OVER LAUGHER. This was actually funny to me. We had a lady start work with us who laughed at everything. Funny or not. I thought this was an interesting approach. I found myself talking to her one day and she started laughing out of the blue. I couldn’t help but just look at her in shock. I didn’t say anything funny and she’s laughing…What the HELL do I do now? Do I laugh back? Do I just smile?. Thank god someone else came in and started another conversation so I could get the hell out of there.

Celebrity Fetish

Posted in Witless Wednesdays on May 20, 2009 by officezombie

I can’t help but notice how much people are fascinated by celebrities. The other day I was at the store and overheard some ladies talking about this celebrity and that celebrity. All I could think about was…”Who the hell are you talking about?!”I didn’t even know who these people were!

It seems that being fascinated by ACTUAL celebrities has passed and we are moving on the anyone with money. Seriously, what has Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag done that grants them the “celebrity” title?! I don’t know…I think I still blame Paris Hilton for it. It just cracks me up and makes me wonder what people will think about when they look back at our generation and see we were watching “Rock of Love” (Trainwreck of a show but I do understand the appeal). I also find myself watching certain shows and getting into them the same way. Also, reading the celebrity blog sites like Celebslam and Idontlikeyouinthatway.com to get all the latest dirt. The question still lingers…Why?! Is it because they are rich?! Is it because they go to fancy restaurants?! Or is it because they do all of this and we just want to be there when they fal right on their ass?! Hmmmm….I like the last part. Nothing like seeing a douchebag fail miserably. Amy Whinehouse anyone?!

Any thoughts feel free to comment. Just my random thought of the day…
